Fort Meade On-Post Family Housing

Located between Baltimore, Maryland and Washington, DC, Fort Meade was carved out of heavily forested, rolling hills in a decidedly rural area prior to World War I. Before Picerne assumed housing responsibilities in 2002, Fort Meade’s homes were not considered among the Army’s best. Now, spectacular new and renovated homes serve the on-post military community along with the Army’s best Neighborhood Centers.

The site of Fort Sill was staked out on January 8, 1869 by Maj. Gen. Philip H. Sheridan who led a campaign into Indian Territory to stop hostile tribes from raiding border settlements in Texas and Kansas. Much of the post’s rich and colorful history is intertwined with tales of Native American lore during that era. Today, Fort Sill remains the only active Army installation of all the forts on the South Plains built during the Indian wars.
